SUPER 8 TEAMS - Fantastic Performances from NAAC Athletes The Youth Super8 team competition is an athletic competition with teams of 8 girls and 8 boys. Eight teams across Scotland took part in the event with Ayrshire Harriers selecting the Ayr team from the three athletics clubs of Ayr Seaforth, Kilmarnock Harriers and North Ayrshire Athletics Clubs. All athletes competed in one field event; one track event and one relay each in a format similar to the Senior Super 8 event which took place later that evening. The young athletes were on first and they were all introduced on camera and captured on the big TV screen at the end of the track. The last medley race was held between the international event and the young athletes got big cheers from the crowd of nearly 5000 people who were watching the main event. It was a closely contested event with the leader board changing throughout the competition. At one point Team Ayr were in third place but finished a very creditable 5th place. All of the athletes enjoyed the experience of the event where they were given the opportunity to share in the limelight of the star athletes competing at night. Some of the team members were also interviewed by the TV Crew and this was shown around the stadium on the large media screens. Lorne and Fern were interviewed following their part in helping the girl’s team to a win in the 4x100m relay. To say they were ‘star struck’ would be an understatement, but James gave a very creditable interview following a win in the hurdles event. Full results:

Fantastic Performance from Lone Sprinter Alana Crawford North Ayrshire AC had one athlete through at Wishaw on Saturday for the Scottish Closed Championship. Alana Crawford from Irvine was the Club’s sole representative. The turn out from athletes from all clubs was very disappointing, athletes studying for exams were the main reason given for the low turnout. The weather was still on the cold side with the wind blustering across the track making conditions not that ideal for the sprinters. |
