Scottish Indoor Championships - Sunday 13th March North Ayrshire AC athletes were competing at the Scottish Indoor Track & Field Championships at Kelvin Hall, Glasgow at the weekend on March 13th 2011. There was a great turnout of athletes and supporters and a very high standard of competition. Most events had heats, semi finals. There were a number of North Ayrshire Athletes missing from this competition who could have been in with a chance of medalling. It is also good experience for athletes to go to these Championship events to mix and compete with other club athletes.

Young U13 girl Ellie Fulton was competing for the Ayrshire team in the Stadia Challenge competition, where eight teams from track stadiums around Scotland entered a team of four boys and four girls. Ellie was the only North Ayrshire Athlete in the team and she was competing in the High jump, finishing 2nd with a personal best ( PB) of 1.30m. The Dam Park team finished 7th overall. U17 Alana Crawford finished 4th in the 60m heat in 8.41s. U17 Connie Frearson finished 3rd in the heats and 6th in the semi final in a PB of 8.24s. U15 Molly Mooney finished 6th in 9.27s. In the 200m races U15 Kyle Jackson ran 29.85s. finishing 3rd in the heats. In the 400m race Kyle ran 67.67s finishing 5th. Good performances and Kyle will get better over the summer. Sean Gibson finished 4th in the 60m and 5th in the semi-finals in a best time of 7.56s. In the 200m Alana had a great run and finished 3nd in 27.96s, just missing out on qualifying because she was in a fast heat. In the 200m Connie reached the semi-final and finished 2nd in a new a PB of 27.62s.

U15 Holly Morgan was disappointed with her shot put of 7.15m finishing 8th. U17 James Gaffney had the best result of the day with a throw of 13.08m winning a bronze medal. James has lots more to come in the throwing events and is looking forward to the summer competitions.

Scottish Indoor Open Championships - PB and Great Result for New Star Athlete James Gaffney North Ayrshire AC athletes were up at Glasgow Kelvin Hall on Sunday 23rd January 2011 for the Scottish Indoor Track and Field Open Championships.   This is a new event, and with large entry numbers  it took a lot of organising. There were teething problems, especially in relation to seeding of the 60m races in the morning. However it turned out to be a good day for North Ayrshire Athletes. U17 girls Alana Crawford  and Connie Frearson both very closely matched. Open seeded competitions are all about performance and  both Connie and Alana ran a fast times of 8.39s and 8.43s finishing 3rd  and 4th respectively in their races. In the U15 girls 60m races  Molly Mooney ran 9.24s, Holly Morgan 9.47s and Lauren Gillespie 9.47s.  all good times for their age group.  In the 200m event Connie won her race in 27.84 and Alana was 2nd in 28.01s. different race.  U15 girls 200m races, Jenna Gillespie 32.56s 2nd, Holly 33.07s 3rd.  and Lauren 33.19s 4th.

In the shot putt U17 man James Gaffney who has been training at North Ayrshire for some time and has now joined North Ayrshire from Ayr Seaforth .( the training facilities and coaching are of a higher standard.) This showed in his performance in winning the U17 competition with a new personal best a (PB)of 13.29m an improvement  of 1.0m over his previous best.
