Glasgow Park Run 5k - PB for Derek Reid North Ayrshire AC’s Derek Reid was at Glasgow for the 2nd of the Park Run series of races. Derek finished in 33rd place over the 5K course and was the 29th male out of a field of 400 park runners and came 5th in his age category of VM40-44. He set a new Personal Best (a PB) by 29 seconds finishing in 20:03mins. A excellent time for this 5k course and he will look to improve over the summer with some quaility training sessions KA Leisure's 5k Trail Race - Strong Performances from Liam Dale and Gordon Wilson North Ayrshire AC athletes were down at the beach park Irvine on Sunday 27th March for KA Leisure’s 1k family fun run and the 5k trail race. The 1k race round the pond was won by Fraser Mackie, Jill Taylor 2nd and Halle Stewart 3rd all of North Ayrshire AC. The 5k race of 2 laps was dominated by Liam Dale over the first lap with Gordon Wilson a close second. On the 2nd lap run in to the finish, Gordon Wilson put in a fast finish to win the race in 18.34mins, Liam Dale 2nd in 18.34mins with Sarah Davies 1st lady in 3rd place in 20.13mins. All from North Ayrshire A.C. other North Ayrshire finishers, Paige Douglas 7th in 23.31mins. Stephanie Dalgouttie 11th in 24.01mins…….This was an excellent race with a reasonable turnout, it has the potential to improve if local athletes were to turn out and support the efforts of KA leisure who put on a good race with a well laid out course. West District Championships 2010 - First Class Performance from Newcomer Sarah Davies On Sunday 16 January one of the biggest sporting events in the West of Scotland took place over the Irvine Moore. Irvine Royal Academy was the venue for the Scottish Cross Country West District Championship. With over 600 entries there was some top class runners taking part. The stiff breeze early on was drying out the course for the races in the afternoon. North Ayrshire had five young athletes taking part with young Halle Stewart running first in the 3200m U13 girls race. Halle put in a good performance to finish 48th in 16.59mins. U13 boy Iain Wilson had a great run finishing 5th in 12.14mins. U15 girl Sarah Davis also had an outstanding run to finish 5th in her first major championship in a time of 18.43min.for the 4400m course. U15 boy Fraser Mackie made his target of finishing in the top 30, just!!! He finished 30th in 18.29mins. Gordon Wilson finished 39th in 19.29mins.
Beith Road Races - Strong performance from Gordon Wilson and Newcomer Liam Dale North Ayrshire AC athletes turned out in a cold 2nd of January for the annual Beith Road races. U11 Boy Jamie Nix running in his first race for the Club finished 4th in 5.01mins. U11girl Isla Burns also running in her first race finished 6th in 6.09mins. U13 boy Iain Wilson finished 5th in 7.25mins. U13 girl Molly Mooney finished 8th in 9.17mins. Halle Stewart 9th in 9.51mins. U15 boys Gordon Wilson and Liam Dale both had excellent runs finishing 2nd and 3rd respectively in times of 6.40mins and 6,45mins. In the girls U15 race. Jill Taylor finished 6th in a good time of 8.13mins. and Simone Sherrie 7th in 8.53mins. Junior man Lee Wilson had an excellent run being the first Ayrshire runner to cross the line in a strong field of athletes, some with Scottish vests to their names. Lee finished in 3rd Junior Man. 7th overall in a time of 24.44. Winning Man Chris MacKay from Inverclyde set a new course record of 22.43 for the 4.8 mile race. North Ayrshire’s Final runner was Scott McKendrick who also had a good run finishing 7th vet 35 and 20th overall in a time of 29.41mins.
Ayrshire Harriers Cross Country Championships 2010 - Excellent run from Sarah Davies competing in her 1st Championship event The Ayrshire Harriers Cross Country Championship was held at Broomfield Park Cumnock on Saturday 29th November. North Ayrshire’s senior entry Stephen Daye had an excellent run finishing 5th in 38.06mins over the 9km course which had heavy underfoot conditions. Winner Stephen Wylie from Girvan AC was only 4mins ahead. The U17 girls team won team gold with Alison Hughes finishing 5th in 24.29mins, Stephanie Dalgoutte 6th in 25.41mins and Paige Douglas(making a comeback) 7th in 26.00mins. This was a good performance from the U17 girls and they should do well in the West Districts which is being held over the Irvine Moore on Saturday 4th December.
